Fine Art Photography by Katy Lengacher

My fine art conceptual work departs from my journalistic roots to explore whimsy and activisim through portraiture, often examining feminism and other social justice issues through mythology, folklore and literature by re-imagining historic female characters into their modern counterparts.

Lilith Rising

The “Lilith Rising” series reimagines Lilith as a symbol of self-possession: a woman who rises precisely where patriarchy hoped she would fade away. Each self-portrait echoes her movement from erasure to unashamed embodiment. This work honors the reclamation of agency as an act of quiet, radical, matriarchal power.

Deliverance

I was born into a conservative Mennonite community, and my daughter was born into what I now see as quite the opposite of that: a safe space to be a girl, to have big dreams, listen to the music she loves, read the books she wants, and wear whatever clothes she likes - all free from the burden of purity culture. This series builds on pieces of both mine and my daughter's childhoods and dreams, comparing how different and how similar they can be.
